Hello,

Happy July, this month is a big one for Nozza, we have some staple classic events happening, it’s one of my favourites months for the city. If you’ve been a subscriber for a while you might know that in July I often do a specific curated email about whats happening and where for the Norwich Lanes Fayre. I haven’t done that this year, what I have done is a short sprinkle of events in this newsletter, so if you’re reading this and wondering why there’s tonnes of things happening on the 12th - now you know!

Last month I spoke to you guys about launching our Community Grant Applications, these are due to be announced this month which means you will be hearing from me more than once, sorry! - I very rarely chat to you outside of this newsletter but you’ll be hearing from me later in the month with all the details and information. The Community Grant Fund has been supported and funded by our members in The Neighbourhood. They commit £3.50 a month and get tonnes of perks and insider info about our next steps, I’m going to be writing to them next Wednesday with all of the goss and secrets. They’re also the group who will be deciding where the first grant will be awarded to….exciting! I’m still looking for a few more members to join The Neighbourhood to help the community grant to continue to expand. Please think about joining, I’d love to see you there!

As always, pass this newsletter on to your pals, head out into the streets & support our locals. Best, Al x

So, here goes, the top line note is that the Norwich Lanes Fayre is happening, on Sunday 12 July. In my opinion one of the best days in the calendar! Below are just a couple of the events happening as part of the day…

I Dream of Records and Looktwice are teaming up to host a pop-up record fair, it’ll be happening upstairs above the Looktwice Shop from 11-5pm. Entry is free and of course live DJ’s will be playing throughout the day.

A double dose of news for this one, firstly Moss, the hairdressers have moved to a beautiful new space on St Benedicts Street and for the Lanes Fayre they’re going to be hosting a pop-up shop with Aesthetic Laundry. 11-5pm.

Summer Fayre Afters | 12 July 8-Late

Looking for somewhere to head after the fayre? Birch are hosting the official? unofficial? afters. They’ll be serving up music, drinks and will be opening their courtyard for good measure. More deets in the link above.

Lord Mayors Weekend | 10-12 July

I told you it was all happening this month. Another annual event returns to the calendar. Across three days the city centre will come alive with a myriad of events. A highlight is always the procession (Sat 11). And Sunday brings the infamous Great Norwich Duck Race. But that’s not all, view the full lineup in the link above!

The Artichoke are hosting a gardeners club, a perfect opportunity to chat to fellow green fingered friends, share knowledge, seeds or spare materials. Happening from 12 - 2pm with more details in the link above.

Please forgive me as the next event isn’t strictly Nozza, but it’s something worth shouting about. Black Shuck Festival in Bungay is back again from 31 July - 2nd August. It’s a festival celebrating folklore, imagination and storytelling in it’s many forms. And is soooo great.

A A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR

Norwich History Festival

Norwich History Festival will run from 14th to 24th July across the city, with an exciting programme of talks, walks, exhibitions, performances and film screenings, all with the theme of 'Why History Matters'.

‘History’s Most Epic Fibs and Fails’ with Athena Kugblenu, coming to Norwich History Festival on Wednesday 15th July.

Norwich has a deep and varied past, and this is your opportunity to learn about some of its historical places and spaces, as well as the lives of the people who lived here. You will find a range of talks, from local historians to national names like Jeremy Deller, Antony Beever, Athena Kugblenu, Charlie Higson and Kate Williams. Events will be held in some of the beautiful buildings we have here in Norwich, such as the Octagon Chapel, the Great Hospital, St Peter Mancroft Church and Dragon Hall.

Why not join a walking tour exploring some of the hidden gems of the city, from the vaults underneath us and the magnificent marble hall on Gentleman’s Walk to more well-trodden paths like the cobbled streets of Elm Hill? There’ll also be a Routemaster bus tour heading out of the city to discover the history of the WW2 American air bases in Norfolk.

This year we’ve partnered with the Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell to offer a free weekend of entry to the museum from the 16th to the 18th of July, where you can discover their Bridewell: 100 YEARS of the Museum of Norwich exhibition, celebrating some of the city’s transformations over the last century.

Finally, if you know any budding young historians, there’ll be a range of family-friendly events and workshops to kick-start the summer holidays. Including an open-air performance inspired by archaeological adventures at the newly reopened Whiffler Theatre in Castle Gardens.

Fuego | Last Weekend

Big News, if you haven’t made it to Fuego at The Stanley, this weekend is your last chance. They’ve just published their last menu, so be sure to book a space to bid a fond farewell. They’re open Fri through to Sunday and as the post says - be there or be square.

Mouneh Kitchen | Opening

Modern, Palestinian home cooking is making its way to Norwich. Named Mouneh Kitchen, serving moreish rice dishes, seasonal salads and fresh juices from St Saviours Yard. Head to their socials in the link above to find out opening dates / times.

Pips Dinner | July Menu

Pip’s on St Augstines’s Street have just announced their July menu and in their own words it’s picky bits gone mad. Serving for the next three weekends, make sure to book your spot. (Just having a read of the menu whilst writing this and their peach and watermelon summer pudding sounds insane).

Now, I’ve never seen a foodie event like this but Edd (The Bodega) and Isaac are going head to head in an evening of slinging Parms at The Artichoke. And reader, you will get to vote who wins the crown for ‘Prince of The Parm.’ Make sure you’re following both on socials to keep an eye on the pre-order link - it’s obviously going to sell out super quick.

Bjorns Wines | Wine Lounge/Archive

Something interesting I’ve seen pop-up on socials - Bjorns Wines. There’s nothing in stone yet but it’s due to be a future wine lounge, built around old-world wine, Mediterranean hospitality and an archive museum of wine. They’re currently documenting the journey from the first bottle to the day the doors open. Follow along in the link above.

Kerry Curl | Photographer

Twice selected for the British Journal of Photography’s Portrait of Britain, Kerry is such an interesting and experimental photographer. Often working with vintage materials, ideas of nostalgia and creating work that acknowledges history but still speaks of the now. Suuuper fun and beautifully nostalgic.

Roisin O’Donnell | Illustrator

You might have seen their work adorning the windows of The Clubhouse recently but Roisin’s illustrations are so beautiful and playful.
